routes to appeal to customers in Essex and London looking for a
convenient new departure point for many top European destinations. We
also believe that the European city links will also attract a high
number of inbound business and leisure passengers to London next
year.....

Typical attention-seeking nonsense. For many passengers in Essex,
Southend airport is easier to get to than Stansted or Gatwick, and will
no doubt be a faster and more pleasant experience once you've got there.

TBH there isn't that much difference between LTN.. (35 miles ) STN..
(40 miles) and SEN .. (40 miles ) from central London.

Ryanair already fly to both LTN and STN..how long will it take for
them to join Easyjet examples and start flying from SEN themselves?

Presumably it all depends on the local aiport charges/subsidy offered?

Which Ryanair no doubt will put before client convenience?

There was me thinking you thought FR could do no wrong.

As all that EZY are doing is moving some flights that used to start at STN
to SEN I can't see how this helps anybody.

People who were previously going to travel to STN to catch a flight are now
going to have to go to SEN.

So what?

Where does it say there will be fewer flights from Stansted?

It helps a lot of people who are nearer to Southend than Stansted.

It's what they said on the TV yesterday. The service at SEN will be
provided by moving three planes from STN.

At the expense of less options for everybody

ATM there are three flights from STN to FAO. (one of the quoted
destinations to be served)

Do you think that having moved three planes to SEN that EZ will provide more
flights overall to FAO or share them between two airports?

For a few agreed, but overall I don't think it a positive move (except for
Stobarts)

Fair enough, the hacks at the Guardian didn't pick that one up.

Sounds like there may be the same number of flights to FAO, but one of
them will be from an airport more convenient for the passengers than
Stansted (ie much of the A11/A12 corridor in Essex).

Stansted isn't half an hour from anywhere useful, but Southend is.
Sometimes that accessibility is quite important.
